20 February 2008 - D.D. Meanie - in memory

Dennis DePianto, best known to music fans as D.D. Meanie, passed away in St Vincent's Hopsital on Feb. 14th.

He had been ill for some time with muscular dystrophy and, more recently, a short but stubborn battle with cancer.

Dennis suffered from muscular dystrophy as a child yet, despite the disability, he refused to let it stop him from pursuing his dream to be a rock guitarist.

Dennis was guitarist in the Meanies from 1988 until 1995. His relentless guitar style is stamped on many of the most well-known Meanies' classics, including Darkside, Paranoid, Ton of Bricks, 10% Weird, Mr. Authority, Big Bertha, etc.

I got to talk to Dennis for the first time in many years when I heard about his dire prognosis and instantly wished I hadn't waited so many years. Regretfully, the illusion of immortality is a great waster of time and opportunity.
Rest in peace mate,

D.D was a bloke that rose above the challenges put in front of him to achieve great succees. Will be remembered for his buzz saw guitar sound, his political musings in tour vans and his role in establishing the band and its early following. A great friend and band mate to many.
