Dan Kelly is quickly becoming our generation’s Steve Miller. Our own Space Cowboy/Gangster Of Love is back with his second album, Drowning In The Fountain Of Youth, bubbling with the kind of intelligently agile, irreverently mischievous, psychedelic blue-eyed soul that the Steve Miller Band, Steely Dan and 10CC took to ... 07 October 2008 - Dan Kelly & Ukeladies
On a small island off Western Samoa, (Sa ‘Sacred’ and Moa “chicken’ in the local parlance)…….a lone ukulele chimes under the cries of starving seagulls, beyond the crash of surf on the bleached reef, factory ships scour the ocean floors.
Meanwhile on the beach three voices croon in sweet harmony, an island chorus, “As the sun sets, sing along, a simple tunes for cultures burned and gone….”
It is the ghost of Elvis, with two young Hollywood starlets? Is it Enrique Iglesias holidaying with two soulful Russian tennis players?
No! Its Dan Kelly and The Ukeladies!!!!!!
With the planet in peril, Dan Kelly has taken time off recording his third album to team up with Melbourne’s premier faux Hawaiian duo, The Ukeladies, to release The S.U.V Song, which is available as a free download from www.myspace.com/dankellysongs now.
A timely ode to the sinking Samoan and Tuvaluan women as they resignedly gurgle insults at Westerners pottering about in their supersize automobiles, The S.U.V Song is another skewed, witty, sweetly melodic and bleak song from the pen of the man who brought us “Drunk On Election Night’ and the award winning LP Drowning In The Fountain Of Youth.
The S.U.V Song floats onto the airwaves this month, featuring possibly the world’s first ever mobile phone feedback solo, performed by the Ukeladies in true tropical Armageddon style. This ground breaking tele-communictaion experiment combined with their dreamy vocals and Dan’s crooning falsetto make for a match made in tropical heaven.
The summer winds will blow Dan Kelly and The Ukeladies around the country for a string of shows supporting Augie March, as well as a number of their own headline shows through October and November, see below for details.
21 January 2008 - Dan Kelly - solo shows
Following his nomination for Best Male Artist at last year’s ARIA Awards, Dan Kelly has spent the past six months wandering the wilderness in a sack cloth and flying goggles seeking half truths and songs for his upcoming new record - tentatively titled ‘The Decommissioner’- and playing the odd gig or a hundred with Paul Kelly.
February sees Dan return to the stage in a more intimate form, playing two rare solo shows featuring a selection of tunes from his two critically acclaimed albums plus some newly penned songs and several impressive covers.
31 October 2007 - ARIAs Again
Oh well, Dan was up for best male artist at this year's ARIA Awards. Though he didn't win, it was great that Goyte did (in his bare feet!). We had a ball. Best moment was when Lewis Boyce asked Nicole Kidman to take a photo of him with Ian Meldrum. And she did!

The song "Drowning In The Fountain Of Youth" (not to be confused with the album title) represents a key scene in the overall play, where Dan and The Alpha Males eloquently revile our on-going obsession with youth and image… singing in exquisite harmony “Watching the Western world die / Singing bye bye bye bye!”
Of course, it’s also a cracking rock song…. And hey, you’re young and good looking anyway, so what have you got to worry about ?

20 October 2005 - Dan Kelly - Pirate Radio
We spent all morning trying to come up with the sort of dumb/witty headline for this news item that would have made an early 80s Sounds/NME/Melody Maker sub-editor proud. But we failed. Trouble is, the Sailors have pretty much used every pirate-related line we could think of. And we haven't had enough coffee yet to think of anything original.
Anyway, Dan Kelly & the Alpha Males have a new EP out on Oct 31st It's called Pirate Radio. It features 6 new tracks, including Drunk On Election Night (with it's sweet "motherfucker/cocksucker" chorus).
DK&AMs will be heading off on tour around the country throughout November (see touring section).
